Heading through to Syria I had to checkout Lebanon, sometimes nicknamed 'The Switzerland of the Middle East' for it's previous reputation to discreetly store one's wealth.
Sadly at time of filming Lebanon has fallen far. Infested with Hezbollah, an Iran-backed terror organization that sudo-controls the government without any of the benefits a functioning government would provide. They destabilize the whole nation and ensure it's stuck in constant conflict internally and externally.
Even so, the Lebanese press on as some of the kindest and most hospital folks you'll ever meet. Kind, open-minded and fantastic cooks.

Hezbollah forces are dotted around the country and in Beirut. Generally they'll leave you alone but you'll find that their presence gets in the way of whatever you're trying to do.
Go clubbing. Lebanon has one of the most fun and exciting night life's out there, everyone interacts and has fun together.
Use the ATMs. The official conversion rate of Lebanese pounds is atrocious. Instead bring cash and exchange with stores directly at the black market rate.
Discuss sensitive topics if you're unfamiliar with the person. Lebanon is outrageously diverse in terms of religion and nationality. There are floods of Syrian refugees and struggling folks so you never know who's been affected by what.
