Jordan

2023

Highlights:

Summary

The safest place in the Middle East, with something for literally everyone Jordan is a wonderful country to visit and have a lovely holiday

Sitting between several hostile powers you'd think Jordan to be dangerous but for decades now it's managed to remain a safe haven for refugees and tourists with plenty of warmth and hospitality to go around

It boasts some of the most attractive photogenic sites in the world from Wadi Rum with it's heritage train experience to Petra, the great Nabataean city lost in time

Official Travel Advice

From the Australian DFAT Smartraveller

Exercise a high degree of caution

Challenges

Getting between major cities can be a struggle and bus time tables dont always align. I'd recommend hiring a car, not a tour guide

Do

Apply for the Jordan Pass, it comes with entry to most attractions, historical sites and includes your visa for the country

Don't miss the north, plenty of quiet castles and forts from history to explore

Ensure you give Wadi Rum and Petra at least 2 full days each - It's easy to underestimate what you can do

Petra has a back entrance, start here at the 'Monastery' and you'll proceed to work down hill and finish at the famous treasury
